Hellhounds

This poem was written in the year 2023, during a time of deep turmoil. It felt like I was stuck in a never ending spiral that just kept descending downwards. No matter how much I tried, it felt like my peace and sanity were slipping from me day by day. The days seemed gloomier and my taste for life became more bitter. This is my recollection of that time.

Hellhounds

In the land of the unforgiving
In the land of hostility
Where demons reign
and the air thicker than cotton
Where water is non existent
and roots to dreams become rotten
The sky is always angry with red
There are no sweet melodies here
Only deep vibratos of despair
Like a choir of cellos played by bows
laced with cursed horse hairs
It hums all throughout the atmosphere
like a constant storm that sheds no rain
Here I am an angel
caught and bound by chains
Guarded by hellhounds whose names
I dare not say

I’m bound,
I’m bound,
I’m bound,
I’m bound!

To the sneering and growls of infinite hell hounds
Can you hear them?
How can you ignore these sounds?
All of the sneering
All of the growls
Every time I make an escape
these hellhounds just sniff me out
like I’m their last meal on the hunt
Have you seen the way they run?
So ominous and gaunt
No ears, no fur
It’s all been burned off
So they cut through the air
like a sickle through a wheat yard
There’s no escaping these half demon
half dogs

Here I am an angel
trapped with demons, sent by God
Have I been damned?
What have I done wrong?
Here I have made many sacrifices
trying to bring order to this chaos
only to be locked and barred
where demons reign
and the hell hounds, whose names
I dare not say, stay on guard
Everyday I pray and make pleas
asking God:

“Why have you forsaken me?
Or do you believe there a miracles
only I can achieve?”

God does not answer...

And these hellhounds look at me hungry
with eyes dreaming of sins
that these barren lands are filled with
There cannot be peace
where peace does not want to be found
And it is here
where I have been chained and bound
